Rosa was travelling home from work on the bus in 1955 when the bus driver ordered her to give up her seat as it was in the ‘white section’ of the bus.
She refused to move and was arrested. She became an icon of the Civil Rights Movement and continued to fight for civil rights throughout the rest of her life.
